Shopify has launched a native integration with DoorDash that allows eligible US merchants with physical stores to list products on the DoorDash marketplace and offer on-demand delivery, without separate onboarding, additional platforms, or custom development work.
As DoorDash VP of Enterprise Partnerships Mike Goldblatt stated: "If it's in your area, it's on DoorDash." Shopify VP of Partnerships Atlee Clark added: "This integration puts local retailers in front of millions of DoorDash shoppers and turns same-day demand into sales, all managed inside Shopify."
This is not a third-party app bolted onto Shopify. It is a direct integration, available through the Shopify App Store, that connects a merchant's existing Shopify product catalogue and inventory to DoorDash's delivery network. Inventory syncs in real time with Shopify POS. The Shopify App Store listing shows a launch date of 14 May 2026, with the public announcement on 14 July. Setup time drops from weeks to days.
Why this matters more than another app integration
The traditional model for independent retailers who wanted same-day delivery required one of two approaches: build an expensive in-house delivery capability, or manually manage listings across delivery platforms with separate inventory tracking, pricing, and order management.
Both approaches created friction. The first was too expensive for most small and mid-sized retailers. The second was operationally fragile.
Shopify's DoorDash integration removes both barriers. Merchants keep their existing Shopify workflow. Products, pricing, and inventory are managed in one place. DoorDash handles the delivery logistics. The merchant's staff picks and packs the order from their existing store location, and a DoorDash driver collects it.
As Retail TouchPoints reported, DoorDash is not alone in pursuing this strategy. Instacart and Uber Eats have been aggressively adding non-grocery retailers to their marketplaces. The delivery platforms have recognised that their logistics networks are more valuable when they serve a broader range of merchants, not just restaurants and grocery stores.
What merchants should evaluate
-
Product suitability: Same-day on-demand delivery works best for products with established local demand, reasonable margins, and straightforward fulfilment requirements.
-
Inventory accuracy: The integration syncs inventory in real time, but this only works if your Shopify POS inventory is accurate in the first place. Discrepancies become cancelled DoorDash orders and negative reviews on the platform.
-
Margin impact: Delivery marketplace fees will compress your margins on every order. The question is whether the incremental sales volume and customer acquisition justify the cost.
-
Cannibalisation risk: If customers who would normally visit your store or order through your website start ordering through DoorDash instead, you are paying a marketplace fee for sales you would have captured anyway. Monitor whether DoorDash orders are incremental or substitutional.
-
Brand experience: When a customer orders through DoorDash, the delivery experience is controlled by DoorDash, not by you. Merchants who invest heavily in branded packaging need to decide whether this channel aligns with their standards.
Practical next steps
Before enabling the integration:
-
Audit your POS inventory accuracy: Fix discrepancies before they become customer-facing problems.
-
Model the margin impact: Know your per-order economics with DoorDash fees included.
-
Start with a subset of products: List your highest-margin, most popular items first.
-
Set up tracking to measure incrementality: You need to know whether DoorDash orders represent new customers or redirected existing ones.
The integration removes the technical barrier to same-day delivery. The operational and strategic decisions about how to use it well are still yours to make.
